About Soul Travel blog - responsible travel blog

Welcome to Soul Travel!

Soul Travel blog is a leading resource on responsible travel in India and around the world.

Our Mission

Soul Travel blog helps conscious travellers find the most inspiring options for their next sustainable trip – to India or around the world.

Who is Soul Travel for?

Have you ever travelled to a new place and felt filled with a sense of wonder? You look up and all around, like a child experiencing the world for the first time. Everything around you feels new. And in the process, you become new too.

At Soul Travel we believe in transformative journeys and experiences, that create something good.

Responsible Travel

We believe that travel is one of the best tools for personal expansion and consciousness that we have, but at the same time we know that we need to care about the impact of our travel.

We create guides and articles that help travellers discover the best eco-friendly and responsible travel options in a destination, showing that travel really can be a win-win.

All of the travel experiences and companies that we write about on Soul Travel are working towards creating more positive-impact, sustainable and responsible tourism. From eco-lodges doing their best to be self sufficient, to community projects that seek to address gender inequalities in remote parts of the world, we are looking to highlight experiences that help you – the traveller – create a positive difference on your journeys.

In particular, our content looks to support the following UN Sustainable Development Goals:

Who Are We?

Hi! We are Ellie and Ravi. We’re the couple behind Soul Travel.

Now based on Vancouver Island, Canada, here’s a little bit about our stories.

Ellie: Originally from London (UK), Ellie has lived in the UK, Netherlands, India and now Canada. Her background is in hospitality and tourism. Ellie started this blog during a six-month sabbatical trip in 2015 around Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos, and India. She returned to her corporate job after that trip, but found herself increasingly drawn toward a career change that would align with her vision of travel—one that promotes cross-cultural understanding, peace building, and expanded awareness. So in June 2016 she packed her bags and made the decision to pursue working full time on Soul Travel and other sustainable tourism initiatives.

Ravi: Raised in the bustling Indian mega-city of Mumbai, Ravi originally comes from India’s sunshine state: Goa. So it’s fair to say that travel and tourism are in his blood. Lover of anything that tastes good, his favourite way to connect to local cultures is through food. Especially when combined with a good dose of adventure. Prior to pursuing the travelling life, Ravi’s professional background is in Marketing and PR.

What is Our Style of Travel?

Our journeys have inspired us to explore different cultures, and we are fascinated by Middle Eastern architecture, in love with colourful India, and go crazy for finding hidden places in Asia.

We write about soft – adventure travel: you’ll find us eating local streetfood, getting inside the culture and environment of places we visit, and always hopping on and off of trains.

On this blog we cover a range of travel budgets: from backpacking and overland travel, to a luxurious treat. What’s more important to us, is: is it sustainable? We work to highlight which the more sustainable options are for travel, whether it costs pennies or hundreds of dollars.

We’re passionate about using this website to spread the message that a different way of travelling and creating a positive impact is possible because we wholeheartedly believe that travel is the best opportunity for self-growth that there is. It challenges us to push our boundaries, get ourselves outside of our comfort zones, and overcome our fears.

We’ve both experienced this growth and transformation in our own lives as we have travelled. In today’s world, there’s a huge amount of fear about what might happen if we go to countries which are perceived as being less safe, especially as females.

Our goal is to help overcome those perceptions by encouraging travel that truly brings us closer.

About Soul Travel blog a responsible travel blog

Despite its potential downfalls, we passionately believe that travel is one of the most exciting opportunities we have as people to grow personally and become more conscious of the global impact of our decisions. The world needs more of this kind of travel, and we believe we shouldn’t all stay home just yet.

So stick around on Soul Travel, and we’ll share with you how to travel in a way that has a positive impact on you, the destinations you visit, and the world as well. We hope you’ll come along for the journey.

So is this a Solo Female Travel Blog, or Couples Travel Blog, or What?

Well – it’s both! So you get the best of both worlds. 🙂

Soul Travel was started by Ellie as a solo female travel blog, but her love of travelling brought her to other kinds of love too, and since 2017 her partner in life and travel – Ravi – also became a partner in Soul Travel and has been actively involved in this blog ever since. We cover couples travel, but also write about destinations from the point of view of a female traveller. Posts entitled “solo female travel…” were written by Ellie while travelling alone.
